Stress, insomnia, anxiety, depression, burnout, lack of focus, feeling overwhelmed.
Part of life … or a symptom of treading the wrong path?
Many of the problems plaguing individuals and businesses today are symptomatic of our over-focus on ‘outward activity’. In contrast to the western drive to ‘do’ more and more, the Eastern understanding has always been ….
to improve outer success … focus within
It’s very clear today that if we want better health, business performance and overall quality of life (spiritual growth), we need to close our eyes and go within. However, while practices such as Mindfulness have proven wonderful additions to people’s health toolkits recently, most people still don’t understand the difference between generic ‘thinking-based’ meditations and ‘transcendence-based’ techniques’.
The latest neuroscience clearly shows that ‘transcendence-based’ techniques such as Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s Transcendental Meditation or TM, don’t simply increase relaxation and calm, but allow one’s mind to completely go beyond (transcend) conscious thinking entirely. The result is the experience of a unique, fourth state of consciousness, known as Transcendental Consciousness (or ‘Samadhi’ traditionally). Regular experience of Transcendental or Pure Consciousness, has been shown to help develop global brain functioning and lead to higher states of consciousness. As Mark Bunn’s upcoming book, ‘Don’t just Meditate … Transcend’ - details, the new revolution in human performance is all about the fundamental nature of consciousness, and how we need to access it via transcendence. The diagram below, highlights how consciousness is the foundation of all our mental and physical functioning.
The next decade will see the emergence of ‘technologies of consciousness’ – consciousness being the fundamental level of life itself and the basis of all mental, physical and emotional performance.
We are at the limits of what physical technologies alone can give us. We need to start ‘going within’. Like the great teachers of time gone by, we need to develop ‘consciousness’ first and foremost. When we do, not only will stress, anxiety and burnout be eliminated, our birth right of exceptional health, happiness and higher awareness will prevail.
